Experimental demonstration of a transient grating controlled all-optical switch

Abstract We demonstrate an on-fiber all-optical switching device based on a transient grating formed by the interference of control laser pulses in Kerr-type nonlinear material placed evanescent region fiber. The can operate two distinctive modes. First, switching/coupling among fiber modes using bulk index modulation was investigated and efficiency about %0.55 @852 nm measured. Second, exploiting Four Wave Mixing (FWM), that transfers power light signals with wavelengths λ 1 = 440 2 663 achieved quasi-phase-matching fRequency matching thin polymeric film. results prove introduced structure may have potential to be used integrated photonic applications such as intensity modulators or controllable couplers.
